Agruing with Ignorance

Thu Sep 24, 2009, 3:38 PM
Firstly, I love to debate. I don't care what it's about, or even if I agree or not. I love to point out the opposite, rather than the obvious. I'll let everyone else take care of the obvious. The following is a debate with a fellow deviant, and the set up to said argument.

Anyways, I talk about this because, randomly, I'll read something ignorant, and I feel it nessisary to resond. I came across a photo from :iconyellow-stock: and looked through her gallery. Leading me to a photo which had a few comments on it.

One of the comments was from :iconekly: which read as such: come on, how can you sell this, its really bad quality, out of focus, bad pixels, bad light

Which lead to a back and forth of ekly and yellow talking about the photograph, as Ekly became further ignorant about the photograph.

I felt it nessisary to argue...

Me: Wow what an absolute jerk thing to say to someone. Does being a prick help your world work better?

A photgraph doesn't have to be in focus to be good. The lighting doesn't have to sit with a "carved in stone" set of rules.

People like yourself turn art into garbage and it's disrespectful and tastless. I'm sure your mother must have said something about the rules of having something nice to say...

Constructive critisim is helpful. Being a rooster just because... not so much.

Pretty girl, good picture. Photography is not focus, it's photos. Well done yellow.

Th which Ekly replies: she has a good camera but she doesn't know how to use that, she doesn't know how to shot she doesn't know how to compose a picture, she doesn't know how to use light in a picture, and what a picture is, what only she know is just to pres the shoot button, to shoot a pretty girl doesn't make a picture, this is deviantart, is art community where people can show and sell their work and discuss about them, this is not ass-kisser place to tell beautiful words on something that is not good, I'm telling what is true. I don't understand how can you say that this is a good picture, this is a shit picture of a beautiful girl, that's all, and there is nothing to say more about it. I'm just trying to say that you have to learn photography to a be a great photographer some day, and don't telling the truth, doesn't help no one.

So I must respond: I would love to laugh but I'm afraid you wouldn't hear me if I did. You judging this woman on one picture, when she has plenty more. And a lot of them are excellent, showing quality of work, composition, and lighting. Everyone knows what a picture is... except for maybe you. The guy who thinks pictures must follow criteria.

A photograph is a capture of something you see. Just so you know.

And with a camera, it's just that easy, point and shoot. Sometimes you get genius, sometimes not.

I don't come to deviant art to kiss peoples asses, as you said, I come here to show, sell, and discuss. But not to bash, ruin, or destroy.

If you have some critiques, give them, but you can leave the cuss words, attitude, and arrogance at the door, because that's just as destructive as telling someone that bad work is good.

The picture is not bad, it's a picture. If you don't want to buy it, don't buy it. If you don't think it should be for sell, it's really none of your business. Obviously, if someone buys it from her, it's because they like it.

Taking pictures is one of the things you must do to gain that experience to become a great photographer. Which she is obviously doing. Not every snap you take needs to be the most fantasic thing you take, or National Geographic would be firing their photographers after every 3rd shot.

That's just about all I got to say about it at the moment. I'm already kinda tired of arguing with ignorance.

Speaking of which... your last sentence is a triple negative... your English teach would be upset.

So there is that. Just thought I'd share the argument with you all. Since I enjoy it so much.

Really folks, my point is, keep the ignorance to yourself, you can be constructive without being a crooked penis...

I'm an old school pencil and paper artist.

As of late, new school pixels have been treating me rather well.

I go to all the schools... At least the ones that don't involve teachers or forms of payment.

Self taught starving artist. Which means I still have lots to learn, and I'd like a cheeseburger.

With the most primitive means the artist creates something which the most ingenious and efficient technology will never be able to create.
